Shona’s Dose of Motivation | Inside- Out the Comfort Zone

Hello friends and welcome to my blog! So many things have happened since the last time we spoke, so you know what that means right? Time to play catch up!

So lately, I have been taken way out of my comfort zone and I have stepped… well, more like jumped into a leadership role at my church. Now, I’ve always known I would be in some type of leadership role, I just couldn’t put my finger on exactly what that role would be… that is until now.

The first role I started was when my youngest, Lovèah was in the nursery classroom at my church. I volunteered to be a teacher’s assistant in the Pre-School classroom. But once the main teacher (my friend) had her baby, I was moved up to the head teacher. Uh…this was when I inhaled and had to be reminded that it was ok to BREATHE! I was a nervous reck y’all! All kinds of things ran through my head… How am I supposed to teach Pre-Schoolers?… I don’t feel equipped… I can’t this, I can’t that… ugh! I had to just stop & think back to when I taught Kindergarten in my college years. I had to think back even further to when I was a kid and how I loved teaching little kids. Then I thought about what God said about me, I’m capable.

Now, I absolutely love teaching and I have a system that works for me. I love my HOP {House of Prayer} Kids!

The next two big things I started this past September was a Body • Spirit Fitness Group as well as a MOPS group. The fitness group was my idea because I wanted to do something that helped build the entire body mind, body & spirit. So I thought, well, so many people need help with their health and or just need that accountability to keep going, my group would be perfect! So my mother helped me create the name of it & I picked a Bible Plan from the YouVersion app and I was on my way!

A total of eight women signed up for my fitness group and one is already talking about joining for next semester! Mind you, I don’t even know if I will continue this group next semester, but we’ll see lol! I’m just excited to help women feel great & have fun working out.

The last group I’m involved in wasn’t my idea. Last year, I lead a moms with young kids group and this year, my church wanted to do something brand new and involve both campuses {House of Prayer Central & Westchester VA}! Without knowing all the details, the words “I’m in” flowed out my mouth lol! I attended the first leadership gathering and I was filled with loads of emotions. I was excited, but I felt scared and overwhelmed. It’s like I wanted to do it, but anxiety took the wheel.

Have you ever felt like that before? Like you knew you wanted to step out and go after something huge, but that small, but loud voice in your head kept holding you back from experiencing something that had the potential to be so EPIC! Yeah, been there, done that and now writing a blog about it lol!

Let me ask you something… what makes you think you can’t do it? If you answered that negative voice you keep hearing, then girlfriend you are way wrong. We have got to stop being so insecure. We have to stand tall and be bold and embrace those nervous butterflies we feel when confronted with a major role or project! Is it hard to move forward? It can be… Is it impossible? Girrrl… no! We CAN do it! And please don’t blame your lack of experience because hunny, I am currently leading a MOPS group, and a fitness group with zero experience. If you’re like me you’re like what the heck is MOPS? Lol! It is a well known international group created for moms of Pre-Schoolers. There’s also a group created for older kids called MOPS Next.

MOPS is a place where mommas come to let go of the exhausting & stressful day they had. It’s a place where they come to connect and build new friendships with other momma birds, which in turn creates long lasting friendships. MOPS International is there to support , encourage, share laughter & even wipe away some tears. And y’all, I am honored to lead this group. Last night was my first official meeting and we had fun!

The bottom line of all of this is, your comfort zone can actually be scarier than stepping outside the line. It’s scarier to not walk in purpose. It’s scarier to be lonely. It’s scarier living with the constant question of “will I ever?”… it’s so much easier to just go for it and answer that question along the way to fulfilling your destiny.

If you live in Virginia, I want to invite you to my MOPS group if you are pregnant or if you have a children between the ages of 1-5. We meet every 2nd & 4th Tuesday at House of Prayer located at 10500 Newbys Bridge Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832. We meet at 7:00 pm- 8:30pm and we also have childcare! We would love to see you there!

Until next time, “laugh hard, love harder, capture each moment & sprinkle a little joy in someone else’s life.” – XO Shona
