Shona’s Dose of Motivation: Introduction

Hey friends! Happy FriYAY!! I honestly wasn’t too thrilled it was Friday because my kids have been out of school due to snow days. That means they were home, driving this mama nuts at times! I couldn’t wait until I got an alert that school was back in session lol! But, hey, it is what it is and I will just roll with it.

So today, I wanted to introduce you to something I do on Facebook live every Monday and Friday at 9:30 am EST! I share motivational videos from the heart and I thought, well why not share my motivation on my blog? I mean duh! That’s a no brainer right? After all, my passion is helping people.
As a business owner, I have times when my brain switches into loads of negativity & it becomes overwhelming. So, to build myself up and to refocus, I research motivational YouTube videos, motivational speakers on social media, and read personal development books (well, I tend to be more successful with audibles). After I get a good personal development session in, I make note of what I’ve learned so that I can go back, read it and actually APPLY it to my life! Then, I put it into my own words and share it on Facebook live every Monday & Friday. And I also started creating my own personal motivation as well, so some days I grab things from my devotional readings or just random thoughts floating around in my head.

With that being said, I decided for those that say they don’t have Facebook or couldn’t catch my video, I will make sure to talk about my motivational video in my blog! So, are you ready for day 1 & 2 combined? Ok then, let’s dive into this thing!
On Monday, I spoke about how I was in a depressed spot in my life and how I felt like I was stuck in quicksand. I would pray and ask God to please help me because I was feeling so lost! I felt like being a SAHM just couldn’t be the only thing I do when I have so many gifts and talents! I felt like waking up and doing the same thing over and over again was draining in itself & I didn’t want to do it anymore. I wanted something different, something exciting, something that would help me experience freedom and joy!
Just as those thoughts left my mouth, my answer came in the form of my friends & mother. They encouraged me in different ways and all of the encouragement was on POINT! One of my best friends sent me a video that is changing my life! It’s from Pastor Craig Groeschel from Life Church. He delivered this powerful teaching on the importance of having words to live by. He gave examples & I felt so moved that I created a words to live by sheet too! I combined some of what he mentioned & I also created my own. I will be sure to post the example this weekend because today I’m talking about developing new habits!
So, after you read “words to live by” , be sure to come back to this post so everything will make sense and you can tie it all together.

Developing New Habits

So now that you have your words to live by laid out for you, you can make it a habit of reminding yourself what you’re capable of daily. So, you’re basically trading in your old habits of telling yourself you can’t, to learning how to operate in your new habit of telling yourself you CAN!

These new habits of speaking life over yourself will help you grow and build confidence! Now, when you’re developing a new habit, obstacles will rise, but you just have to be an expert at pushing those obstacles behind you & keep moving forward.

Please make note that you will be uncomfortable in the beginning stages, but that’s a great feeling that actually pushes you into improving your mental health overall. And who doesn’t want that right? I know I do! So, you want that uncomfortable feeling at first, so just embrace it.

Lastly, I want to share a quote from my favorite speaker, Josh Coats.

It takes 30 days to create a NEW habit… changing your habit doesn’t change your life, continuing your habit changes your life.

That quote is sooo on point right? I mean so many people want a quick fix! But life isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about being consistent & getting through those tough times with your head held high! So, enjoy developing your new habit friend’s, it’s so worth it come December 31, 2017! Wait and see…

Until next time, laugh hard, love harder, capture each moment & sprinkle a little joy in someone else’s life. – XO Shona~
